What H-1B Software Engineers Make at Google, Apple, Facebook, More
What amount are software engineers on the H-1B visa making
at some of the country's biggest tech organizations? From the start, the
appropriate response appears to be easy: a considerable amount. Be that as it
may, there are subtleties in the information worth focusing on.
For the motivations behind this activity, we went to the
H-1B Salary Database, which records the Labor Condition Application (LCA)
exposure information from the United States Department of Labor (DOL). We've limited
the investigation to software engineers previously, in October 2019; obviously,
many things have changed meanwhile, so it is worth upgrading the information.
For reference, here are the October 2019 numbers:
H-1B Software Engineer Salaries in Big Tech, 2019
- Google - $138,000
- Microsoft - $125,000
- Apple - $120,307
Also, here are the July 2020 numbers. As should be obvious,
the Google, Microsoft, and Apple compensations (the three organizations for
which we can draw a direct comparison) have all expanded significantly:
- Google - 142,000
- Facebook - 167,000
- Microsoft - 143,520
- Apple - 168,000
- Amazon - 145,500
That is a lot higher than the "average" technologist compensation of $94,000 (as indicated by Dice's 2020 Tech Salary Report), however, it's generally comparable to what this huge technology organizations pay their software engineers when all is said in done.
What if the demand for software engineers rises?
